The Institute of Industrial Internet at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) was established in March 2021 as a secondary research institution affiliated with the School of Automation. Focusing on major national strategic needs and international research frontiers such as mobile communications (5G/6G), artificial intelligence, industrial internet, and industrial intelligent manufacturing, the Institute aims to address common key challenges in the networking, digitalization, and intelligent transformation of the industrial manufacturing sector. Driven by technological innovation, it emphasizes university-industry collaboration and interaction among industry, academia, and research. The Institute prioritizes cross-disciplinary research and integrated innovation in fields related to the industrial internet. In response to national strategic demands, it leverages its multidisciplinary characteristics, emphasizing the integration of science and engineering, education and research, and industry and education. By adhering to tradition while pursuing innovation, it strives to build a first-class base for industrial internet talent cultivation and technological innovation.

Relying on USTB's established strengths in disciplines such as control science, computer science, instrumentation, communications, metallurgy, materials, and mining, the Institute aligns with national development trends. It targets major national demands and international frontier hotspots, including 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, industrial internet, and intelligent manufacturing. The Institute is dedicated to solving common key problems in the networking, digitalization, and intelligent transformation of industrial manufacturing. With technological innovation as the driving force, it focuses on university-industry collaboration and industry-academia-research interaction, emphasizing cross-disciplinary research, integrated innovation, and serving as a highland for industrial internet talent cultivation, with the goal of building a world-class innovation platform.

The Institute's main research directions include: 1) New Industrial Control; 2) New Industrial Networks; 3) Industrial Artificial Intelligence; and 4) Intelligent Manufacturing/Industrial Software. Emphasizing the integration of science and engineering, education and research, and industry and education, and adhering to tradition while pursuing innovation, the Institute has established the USTB-China Unicom 5G Metallurgical Intelligent Manufacturing Joint Laboratory and the USTB-ZTE New Industrial Network and Application Joint Innovation Center. It has also been approved as an Industrial Internet Industry Alliance Laboratory for Smart Steel Networked Collaborative Control, striving to build a first-class base for industrial internet talent cultivation and technological innovation. Since its inception, the team has led one National Key R&D Program project, 15 provincial/ministerial-level projects, and 10 enterprise projects. It has published over a hundred SCI/EI papers, been granted more than 80 patents, formulated over 10 international/national/industry standards, received one Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Advancement from the Chinese Institute of Electronics, and released seven industry white papers.
